Jackblog Contest!

As near as I can figure, this website cannot be interacted with.

The Contest:

Jackblog entrants must describe the cryptic workings and meaning of scotchcrotch.com in 20 words or less. The most wildly entertaining guess will receive a special prize from me. Please submit your answers via the comments section.

Get those noodles noodling!

And no using the info email address at the bottom of the page! That's no fun at all.

*Also, the website does have audio, but it's SFW, as long as your bosses don't care about you listening to the serenades of fowl on a website called scotchcrotch.com

juggalo is family

"You got a Juggalo friend, he's got your back for any circumstances. This is family for life."
- bay area juggalo(e?)s profiled in the
chronicle. play the sound clip to hear real live juggaloes, just jug-a-lug-a-loing about what it means to be juggaloes.

apparently the dark carnival is little more than freemasonry in face paint.

Hackers v. Scientologists

Maybe you're a hacker. Maybe you're a scientologist. In any case, it's time to pick sides. A group calling itself "Anonymous" (which is kind of like being "Anonymous," right?) has apparently declared war on the Church of Scientology. In fact, the first blows have fallen. So it all comes down to this. Who's side will YOU be on?

I spent last weekend at Arisia, one of the two Boston-area SF&F cons I attend every year. One of the panels I went to was entitled "When did society get so awesome?" Whether or not society is awesome is, of course, up for debate. The panel was mostly about how formerly nerdy things such as Talk Like a Pirate Day and Zombie Marches have become more mainstream. I wonder, though, does a war between Hackers and Scientologists count as making society more awesome? I think it does. There are, after all, robots fighting pirates on the high seas. So maybe this is all just normal now?

Maybe I'm being too glib. Maybe Scientologists and their freedom of speech squelching powers are a more lethal foe than I'm willing to acknowledge. Maybe the possibility that mercenary Hackers can shut down organizations by flexing their l33t skillz is a dangerous precedent to set. I don't know. I think this is a pretty funny war.

Certainly not the most hilarious war. But pretty funny.

Anyway, "Anonymous" has issued a press release for your perusal. You can also find more, including a written statement and a YouTube video "Anonymous" released, at this Wired blog post. (I haven't watched the video yet, so I don't know if it's SFW or not).

Or maybe this is nothing. After all, the battle between Scientology and the Internet is ancient and well-documented. This might just be the most recent blood-letting. Let's enjoy it while we can!

(P.S.: If any of the links to Scientology pages aren't working, it may well be because of this war.)

before you open your new potter book: beware!

perennial presidential candidate and full-time fascist cult leader lyndon larouche has a warning for all you muggles out there:
This past week, Germany's tabloid Bildzeitung printed some actual news. It reported a Vatican official's warning, that the British cult of "Harry Potter" is a specifically Satanic form of contemporary occultism. The reported argument to that effect stands on its own feet; to be specific, it identifies the current cult of "Harry Potter" devotees as in the same general class of pro-Satanic cults as the "Pokémon" cult.
"on its own feet" indeed! but there's more:
That, however, is too narrow a view of the threat which "Harry Potter" represents to both those victims who are children, and also adults who regress toward infantile states of mind on account of their own susceptibility to such expressions of the wildly irrationalist occult.
dick! i think he's talking about me...
Both "Pokémon" and "Harry Potter" are fresh examples of epidemic forms of mental disease akin to the "Flagellant" cult which rampaged during Europe's Fourteenth Century "New Dark Age," and to the "witchcraft cults" which spread during Europe's Seventeenth Century, as a by-product of the Venice-directed, Habsburg-led horror of religious warfare over the 1511-1648 interval.
somehow you lost me, you crazy fuck.

next time you see those poor crazy-eyed larouche youth, think of this and shed a single tear - just don't get to close. i for one will be sacrificing at least four toddlers to St. Snape the Vicious in honor of their fallen souls. And one to St. Phlegm the Viscous, just because.
