the legend of tim foley

i sleepily awaited the blue line train from metro center this morning, paper in hand, when a rap-tap-tapping commenced upon my tender shoulder. i spun around indignantly to find a bic-headed tim foley with his hands in the air and some manner of government id clipped to his belt.

"wow. um," i said.
"well. i don't know what to say," said he.
"this is weird," said i.
"uh."
(the train doors open and i enter)
"well, see you around," say i.
(the train doors close)

and like that ...! he was gone.

John-Richard Little (aka Johnny Payphone) was interviewed on Chicago's NPR station last week. It's really pretty terrific. Man, that guy's got a +9 to charisma.

The interview appears as a tangent from WBEZ's series on Alternatives to Oil, and focuses on creative bike building, specifically in Ghana. Enjoy.

Remember: You're either with him, or you're with the terrorists.

President Bush said the contrast between the work of the G-8 summit and the actions of the apparent terrorists was "incredibly vivid."

"On the one hand, you have people working to alleviate poverty and rid the world of the pandemic of AIDS and ways to have clean a environment, and on the other hand, you have people working to kill other people," the president said. "The contrast couldn't be clearer between the intentions and the hearts of those of us who care deeply about human rights and human liberty, and those who kill, those who've got such evil in their hearts that they will take the lives of innocent folks. The war on terror goes on."
