he didn't even have the decency to wait:
President Bush commuted the sentence of former aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby Monday, sparing him from a 2 1/2-year prison term in the CIA leak case. Bush left intact a $250,000 fine and two years probation for Libby, according to a senior White House official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the decision had not been announced.
Bush's move came hours after a federal appeals panel ruled Libby could not delay his prison term in the CIA leak case. That decision put the pressure on the president, who had been sidestepping calls by Libby's allies to pardon the former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney.

you know what's sad/wierd- I was in the car listening to NPR exactly an hour ago and they were talking about how the only thing that would save Libby now was a pardon. Then I ate some dinner, and chilled out for a little bit, and upon returning to my computer that ass had let him off on a 1/4 of a million and two years probation...
i thought he still had to pay the fine and has two years probation?
he does, but I still think that's cheap- i meant let him off on only- sorry for the confusion!
Let's be honest, though. The administration couldn't afford to wait. Not a lot to do in prison besides getting sodomized and writing memoirs. And the more the former occurred, the more the latter would have went on.
let not my outrage masquerade as disbelief. it all makes perfect sense when your country's run by crooks.
This is Bush kowtowing to the few conservative hardcores left in his circle, but I also agree that it might have been a damage control move. Libby has probably been turnign the screws and threatening to turn state unless he gets something like this the whole time he was on trial.
Bush is the most impeachable president in history, but we're not going to do it. Instead, his current actions are only doing more to make sure that we keep a Dem pres for 8 years instead of four.
Hell, Ford granted Nixon a presidential pardon. This is just goofin' around on the commutation front.
