I have the same reaction to Obama that I do to Disney movies. I have a visceral reaction, coupled with slight tearing up, right up until the rest of me catches up and asks what's going on and who's manipulating me.

It's a lovely speech about uniting. But what does he stand for? He was sponsoring bills for clean coal a year ago, then had renounced that in favor of more clean energy. But can you trust it? Is it real?

He's nice. I proabably like him more then most people I've seen speechify. But liking him isn't the same as thinking he'd make a good executive power.

who's better?

i don't believe in a direct relationship between speechmaking and decisionmaking. i do think communicating is absolutely important. nobody would be a better representative abroad. nobody could better sell progressive ideas.

there are flaws in every candidate. certainly things could be better. can you trust any candidate? probably not. americans, including myself, seem to trust him more than any of the others.

again - who's better?

and in terms of uniting, he's been coalition building since he entered at senator. There are both long standing democrats and republicans who will tell you that he has worked hard at hearing both sides and helping to find common ground.

(I've read similar accounts of his bi-partisanship from other news sources too)

At this point, I feel like we need someone who can do that and at least listen to a multitude of sides, more than anything else.

I wasn't always sure about Obama, but now he definetly has my support.
