No Country for Old Men
Those of you familiar with Cormac McCarthy (most recently known for his book 'The Road', which despite being an Oprah book club, is apparently excellent) will be excited to know that one of his most recent books 'No Country for Old Men' has been optioned to be a film....by the Coen brothers.Holy hell.

Not only has it been optioned, it's been made. The release date for this film is very soon, sometime in the fall I think. Or maybe November. In any case, this is very very very good news. Don't movies like Raising Arizona and Fargo just seem like they could be written by Cormac McCarthy's funnier younger brother? I haven't read the book yet, but I have high hopes.
I can also say that The Road is an excellent book. Oprah apparently picks some winners. I watched her interview McCarthy. It was only his 3rd intereview in a career that stretches back to the mid-sixties, and his first ever TV appearance. It was, unfortunately, incredibly boring. Oprah is not good at interviewing people, and Cormac McCarthy is not good at being interviewed.
No Country for Old Men is probably the 2nd most action oriented book McCarthy has written, after 'Blood Meridian'.
It's quite good, and Dan, it will take you (unlike some of McCarthy's other books) about 2 days to read it. It's certainly the most cinematic of his books (moreso then All the Pretty Horses).
in other movie news, here is the trailer to dave kagjanich's movie, which is due out in two weeks or some shit.
That looks fun, for people who didn't see invasion of the body-snatchers the first time it came out.
What's the obsession that people have with showing bad CGI at the beginning of a trailer? Why do that? Why not pretend that part isn't in there?
Maybe it's planned, putting it out front and assuming people will just edit it out of their minds.

I read No Country For Old Men about 2 years ago. It is full of bullets and will hopefully make decent flick. For my $ The Crossing is still his finest work.
