The Economist sentence of the week

"His thinking is a curious melange of leftism, dirigisme and liberalism whose Cartesian logic sometimes seemed crystalline only to himself."

I can't figure out what those three things have to do with Cartesian logic. Is he trying to plot them on a grid?

Plowing a straight line through that sentence was also a little difficult. What a choad.

PS although dirigisme is a new and interesting word to me. Thanks Economist!

extra "E"s on normal words like "dirigism" were invented for the sole purpose of inflating the herring-fed egos of aloof, anonymous "Sirs."
