This situation fills me with rage. That Jim Bowden would do such a thing to his former employer is disgusting. He has shown us his quality, and it is the very poorest.
As Doomgoblin and I were discussing last night, however, it is entirely likely that this debacle will have the unlooked-for boon of returning "Beautiful" Barry Larkin to the Reds' fold. Hopefully this shameful display will show him that he's in the wrong town, with the wrong team, working for the wrong guy. Cincy runs deep in Barry's bones, and he should recognize that. It's time to come home number 11.
In other news, Reds fans have a reason to be happy, because Ryan Freel is clearly insane. This from mlb.com this morning:
"I thought it was pretty neat watching [the catch against Pujols]. That was a good catch, Ryan," Freel said. "The midget in my head is named Farney. 'Hey Farney, I don't know if that was you that caught the ball, but it was pretty good if it was you.'"
And for clarification, who is Farney again?
"He's the little guy in my head who I talk to, and I talk to him," Freel said. "Everyone thinks I talk to myself, so I tell them I'm talking to Farney."
The Reds will undoubtedly be bringing home the championship in just a few short months.
Krivsky has asked the Nats for a minor leaguer to "even the deal out," reports Jim Carrol of Baseball Prospectus. This is standard action in these cases, as MLB likes teams to sort this stuff out themselves if possible. I assume that if Kriv doesn't get someone, he'll file a grievance.
The hard parts for me to swallow as a reds fan are 1) unless the prospect is a top guy, and he won't be, i still don't know that the deal works in our favor overall, and 2) the reason we were told by the front office that we had to do give up 2 players that were part of our future, was to win now and a prospect doesn't do that.
in the end, as far as winning now goes, we traded our starting shortstop and right fielder for a crappier shortstop and an average middle reliever. blarg.
