Mr. Redleg (the old timey mascot) failed to make an appearance at Opening Day in Cincinnati. The Reds did, however, bring back Mr. Red. Carlos Zambrano lost his mind after looking into the infinite abyss of Mr. Red's creepy black eyes and subsequently gave up a two run homer to Adam Dunn on a fastball low and away in the first inning. The two run dinger would have been enough for most sluggers, but sensing a milestone, the big Texan swatted a solo shot on his next AB for his 200th career homer. The Reds went on to win 5-1. In other news, ex-cocaine addict Josh Hamilton came in to pinch hit late in the game and was greeted with a standing ovation after posting exceptional number in spring play. He was robbed of a single by a diving Cubs outfielder only to be regaled even louder as he trotted back to the dugout... Cincy loves this kid. He's a comeback story. Everyone loves a comeback story, and damnit, that is what the Reds are too. Wire to wire, baby!!!
*Note: I had to photoshop the blood off of my nose in that pic.

Your devotion is admirable, as is your weather. Today, 4.3.07, it is snowing in MN. I'm riding my bike home.
What would Johnny Ballhead do in my position!
awesome! i wish i could have been there!
I'm guessing Johnathan J. Ballhead would keep his bike in his office and take the bus home. You are a real a man and a true rainbow warrior.
3 more things of note regarding the game...
1) Pete Rose was also at the game and also received a standing O.
2)Gapper, the crazy wacky demon child of the San Diego Chicken and the Philadelphia What-The-Fuck, is still making rounds at Great American. Apparently our stadium is big enough for the both of them. I for one would like to see Gapper designated for assignment.
3) The Cincy PBS station is doing a series about the life and times of Joe Nuxhall.
god damn i love the fucking reds! so much so that yesterday i kicked it hobo-style and "watched" the reds on the internet, via the play-by-play game cast. real fun shit, that...
p.s. -- rose in the hall of fame, please.

but old timey red is back! -- i watched on the tube and he's on all the sleeves and behind the plate.
this summer we're all dressing up old timey red style and going to a game. start working those pecs and growing them staches.
I noticed that watching the game last night too! Couldn't see that kind of detail 7000 feet above the diamond. Hopefully by mid-season Mr. Red will paint on some handlebar glory, don the old timey cap (though I remember the Pirates rocking those caps in mid-80's...), and half-pop that nasty collar. Dare I call it a "rally collar?"
Let me know when you are in town, Reds fans. I'm always up for a game!
