i didn't think colbert on o'reilly was disappointing, for a few reasons. one was that he fucking made fun of o'reilly in ways too subtle for o'reilly to pick up, such as when he said how hard their lives are with all their tv shows and book deals. the other was that o'reilly's main concern about colbert is whether or not he pronounces his name "the french way", and had to go so far as to yell about it.
hard hitting shit, bill. the fact that he honestly believes that colbert owes him something is a testament to the fact that o'reilly is even more out-of-touch and self-absorbed than we can even imagine.
i agree - by the time o'reilly showed up for the colbert report taping it was obvious he knew he had been defeated on his home turf. he even said as much - "it was a mistake". so the colbert report portion was sub-entertaining for sure, as o'reilly realized he met his match and was better off keeping quiet and going along with the jokes.
rhetorically, it was a masterful slaying.
a boring battle for king of over the top hill
