Amid widespread panic in the Republican establishment about the coming midterm elections, there are two people whose confidence about GOP prospects strikes even their closest allies as almost inexplicably upbeat: President Bush and his top political adviser, Karl Rove....The question is whether this is a case of justified confidence -- based on Bush's and Rove's electoral record and knowledge of the money, technology and other assets at their command -- or of self-delusion.

This is because despite a lot of uproar, and some pretty obvious scandal, the Bush team know that they own the voting machines via Diebolt, and that there will be no record of their win in the majority of states.

Goddamn them. Even thinking about it makes me sick to my stomach.

On the upside, we are about to elect the single most liberal congressman in history from my district, and the first Muslim in Congress, Keith Ellison. I'll see if I can get his autograph for you on copy of the Koran, Sarge.

They can sleep easy because Diebolt promised them Ohio in 2004, and dellivered, so why worry now. Good ol' Diebolt will pull through.
